CSX Railroad Bridge
- Service: 6
- Duration: 9 Months
- Location: Washington, DC
This project was originally to inspect new construction and take core samples of the concrete inside of the steel pipe piles for a CSX railroad bridge.
After testing of the concrete, it was found that some of the concrete did not reach the required strength and had to be removed in place and reinstalled.
This was a challenge due to the pile caps already being in place. To complete this, we had to remove the concrete caps, split open the steel piles, demo out the concrete fill with high-pressure water blasting, reform a new section of steel pile onto the existing pile, fill with new concrete, and reinstall the pre-cast pile caps.
All of this work was completed while working just feet away from an active railroad bridge with multiple trains going by during the work shifts.
